No SSN, No U.S. Address, Never Been to the U.S. — Can You Still Do This?

Published 2026-09-06 · Laramie Ledger Tax

This is one of the most common reasons people assume they are stuck. Almost none of it is true. Here is what you actually need — and what you don’t.

Can a non-U.S. citizen even own a U.S. LLC?

Yes — you can own and run a U.S. LLC as a non-resident who has never visited the United States and holds no U.S. status of any kind. Laramie Ledger Tax keeps it compliant from wherever you live.

Do I need a Social Security Number?

No. As a non-resident owner you get an EIN (the company’s tax ID) without an SSN, through Form SS-4 — a standard route we handle for you. See getting an EIN with no SSN. If a personal U.S. tax ID is ever needed, that is an ITIN, handled together with the return that creates the need — EIN vs ITIN.

Do I need to have visited the United States?

No. You can own, run, and keep a U.S. LLC compliant having never set foot in the country. Where you live does not change the federal filing itself.

Do I need a U.S. address or a U.S. bank account?

Not to be compliant. A registered-agent or mailing address covers the state side; you do not need to live there. A U.S. bank account is useful for business, but you do not need one to file — or even to pay us. You pay by card, in U.S. dollars, from almost anywhere.

So what do I actually need?

Your EIN, a record of the money between you and the company, and one signature. That is close to all of it. The rest is on us — Laramie Ledger Tax handles the EIN, the return, and the filing; check what you owe free at the self-check.

Being outside the U.S. is the normal case here, not the hard case. Foreign-owned U.S. LLCs are the only thing Laramie Ledger Tax works on — so “no SSN, never visited” is the standard file, not an exception, and it is all done in writing with no call ever. Start with the free self-check, see How it works, or email us in any language.

Laramie Ledger Tax works only on U.S. tax compliance for foreign-owned LLCs — Form 5472/1120, 1040-NR, FBAR, EIN/ITIN, bookkeeping and sales tax — in English, 中文, 日本語 or any language by translation, at published fixed prices, entirely in writing.
