No Bookkeeping? Records a Mess? Send Them Anyway.
Many owners put off their U.S. filing for one quiet reason: they think they have to clean everything up first, and they never feel ready. You don’t. Cleaning it up is the work you are hiring out.
I never kept proper books. Is it too late?
No. A return can be built from raw records — you do not need finished bookkeeping first. If a year needs its books rebuilt before the return, that rebuild is a service we price up front, not a reason to turn you away.
What actually counts as “records”?
Usually less than you fear. Your bank statements, your platform reports (Amazon, Stripe, PayPal, Wise, Payoneer), and your formation and EIN documents are enough to start. Screenshots and exports are fine. You do not need to organize them into anything — forward them as they are.
What if I mixed personal and business money?
Very common, and not a problem to be ashamed of. Money you put in, money you took out, and company costs you paid from a personal card are exactly what Form 5472 reports. Laramie Ledger Tax sorts the personal from the business; that is part of the job.
How many years back do I have to file?
If you missed more than one year, bring the open years current together — each with its own Form 5472 and pro forma 1120, under one consistent reasonable-cause statement. Filing one year and leaving gaps is what draws questions. Laramie Ledger Tax files all open past-due years together; see how a past-due filing works.
Won’t messy records cost me a lot more?
Not necessarily. A dormant year with almost no activity is a flat, low fee, because there is little to rebuild. A trading year is priced per month of history at a discount to the normal monthly rate. You see the number before any work starts. Waiting is the part that gets expensive, not the mess.
Cleaning up messy foreign-owned-LLC records is a core part of what Laramie Ledger Tax does — priced up front, in writing, before any work starts.
