How it works — and how little you have to do
If you own a U.S. LLC from outside the United States, this is the whole process at Laramie Ledger Tax. We won't pretend it is magic. The filing is real work. But your part is small, and it is the same few steps every time.
Foreign-owned U.S. LLC compliance is the only thing we do — the steps below are built around your situation, not a U.S.-domestic process bent to fit it.
What is the process to file a foreign-owned U.S. LLC return?
In short: you answer a few questions, forward the documents you have, approve a fixed price, and sign once — Laramie Ledger Tax prepares and files the return, then keeps track of your future deadlines. Most returns are ready for your signature within five business days of receiving complete documents. The full version is below.
1. Tell us your situation
Answer a few short questions — in the portal, or just email us. Write in your own language if that is easier; we work in English, 中文, and 日本語, and a translation from any other language is fine. From your answers we send you a short list built for your case, not a generic form. You are never asked for anything that does not apply to you.
2. Send us what you have
Usually your EIN letter, your formation documents, and a record of the money that moved between you and the company. It does not need to be tidy — forward your bank or platform statements as they are. Pulling the numbers out of them is our job, not yours. Documents go through your secure portal, never plain email.
3. Approve the price
Before any work starts, you get the fixed price in writing, from our published rates. Nothing is invented for your case, and there is no charge for working out what you owe. You pay a fixed amount for the work — never a percentage of any refund. If anything would cost extra, you hear it first.
4. Sign once
We prepare the return — and, if a year was missed, the reasonable-cause statement that goes with it — and send it for your review. One electronic signature in the portal. There is never a phone call you have to take, in any language.
5. We file and confirm
For a foreign-owned LLC this goes to the IRS by mail or fax, not e-file. We submit it the correct way and keep the confirmation in your file.
6. Then you stop watching the calendar
From here on we tell you what is due and when — the annual filing, the state report, anything else — before it matters. You don't track U.S. deadlines. After the first filing, this stops being something you carry.
Your whole job: answer a few questions, forward some files, sign once.
Questions people ask before they start
Will you try to sell me filings I don't need?
No. Working out which filings you owe, for which years, and what they cost is free — before you are a client and before any charge. Our prices are published on this website, so you can see them without asking. And when the honest answer is that you do not need something, we say so — we have told owners they did not need a filing they came in asking to buy. You will never get a bill for a form you did not need.
Is it safe to send my documents to a firm I found online?
Your documents and IDs go through a secure client portal — encrypted, built for tax firms — never through plain email. We are a U.S. firm based in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and everything we do for you is recorded in that portal: what you sent, what we prepared, what was filed. You can open your own file at any time.
I'm not in the United States. How do I pay?
By card, through your portal, in U.S. dollars, from almost anywhere. You do not need a U.S. bank account to pay us, and you pay only after you have approved the fixed price. Nothing is charged while we are still answering your questions.
We are in different time zones. What if I can't get on a call?
You never have to. Everything is done in writing — questions, answers, documents, signature — so it does not matter where you are or when you read it. You can reply on your own schedule, translate our messages if that helps, and forward them to an adviser in your own country. We reply within one business day.
Ready to start? See the fixed price on our pricing page and begin your Form 5472 filing — or, if a year is already late, past-due filing. Already a client? Open your portal.
Not sure what you owe yet? Start with the free self-check — a few questions, in your browser, nothing sent to us until you choose to.
Prefer to just ask? Send us your situation in any language.
